It’s Okay to be Single on Valentine’s Day

Being single can be really lonely and sad, but to be honest, you should not feel bad about being single on Valentine’s Day. Come to think of it, I’ve never been in a relationship on Valentine’s Day.

It’s crazy to look back on my life and think about how most of my relationships have ended before any birthdays or good holidays for relationships. I’ve only had one relationship on my birthday and Christmas, none on New Year’s, and none on Valentine’s Day, but that’s okay!

I would rather not spend my holidays with someone unless they were serious about me, and quite frankly, most of my relationships have not been that serious.

I know that Valentine’s Day is one of the worst holidays for someone who is single, but it doesn’t have to be. Being single on Valentine’s day gives way to a drama-free day of pampering yourself, hey, take yourself on a nice date.

If you aren’t interested in having a day all to yourself, get some of your girlfriends together and have a Galentine’s day! Have a movie marathon, drink some wine, whatever your heart desires.

Now if you’re a guy reading this, treat yourself. Spend time doing what you love, whether it’s alone or with your friends. Make this day about yourself.

All in all, it’s okay to be single on Valentine’s Day. It can actually be fun.

A Letter to the Girl I Was in High School

high school

Dear High School Me,

Everything will work out for the better. I know you’re probably hurting right now and extremely stressed, but it’s going to be okay!

The girl you become in 4 years is one you’d be proud of. She really seems to have a handle on this little thing called life. Sure, she still has her moments, but she’s turned into a great young woman.

She’s jumped over all of the fires that have been set in your path… hell sometimes she had to walk right through one. But, she survived.

She wakes up every day just like you do. She goes through the motions just like you do, but there’s something different… more put-together about her.

You’ll get there. It may take 4 years, but you’ll get there. Your struggles aren’t over, but they won’t break you. Stay strong, push through, and make these next few years count.

Being in college will be one of the best experiences of your life. You’ll make some amazing friends, you’ll meet some amazing advisors and professors. You’ll make the most of your time, and you’ll even run for a few positions in different clubs and organizations (I know, that’s crazy to think about, right?).

It will also be harder than anything you’ve gone through this far. You won’t be getting all A’s anymore, but you’ll learn more than you ever have before.

You’re going to really enjoy all that college has to offer, but I won’t give away where you decide to go just yet ;).

Stay Golden,

Your Future Self at 21.

Stephanie May Wilson

Again, this girl is another one of the girls that isn’t going to ignore her faith for her blog. A lot of the helpful articles that I’ve gotten from this blog have been faith-based… and I love that.

I actually first heard of this girl on YouTube, and her blog tends to be similar to what you would see on YouTube with someone’s Vlog Channel or if they are a Makeup “guru”.

The Soul Scripts

This one is another faith-based blog that is perfect for the college girl in need of finding her faith again.

A Day in the Life of a Student Pharmacist (Pharmacy Student)

Generally, it’s expected that pharmacy students will never have it ‘easy.’ Some of us even work in a pharmacy or otherwise during what little free time we have. But for me, it’s stressful enough to just study and go to class all the time.

Here’s a glimpse into what a day in my life currently consists of:

Hit snooze on the alarm for the 3rd time. It’s 6:30 AM; you always set your alarms for 5:00 AM with high hopes that you’ll wake up and do something productive, but you never do.

A feeling of fatigue comes over you as you open your eyes and blink at the alarm on your bedside table a few times. Wow. Is that really the time? You feel as if you have only slept for 2 hours (even if it has been more). You rub your eyes and beg your body to get out of bed because you can’t afford to miss a class.

When you finally get the energy to get up and sluggishly walk into the kitchen to fix your coffee, you try to recall why you’re feeling so tired. You were up late every day this weekend studying for your exams. This is going to be rough. You try to shake the feeling that it’s going to be a long day when you hear your coffee finish brewing.

You finish fixing your coffee, and you start getting ready for the day. Again, you think that today is going to be a long day. It’s Tuesday. You have a Physiology exam at 7:45 and then you are stuck in that same class for 2 hours. Then after that, you have a brief lunch break and then it’s off to Case Recitation. It’s hard to imagine a world where your day doesn’t start at 7:45 AM and end at 4:00 PM, but it seems to be nowhere in sight.

After finishing off your cup of coffee, you try to make sense of the mess that is your hair. You run a brush through it and hope it will look decent enough. If you have time, you fix your makeup, and you’re on your way.

You make it to your exam with a few minutes to spare, but then you realize that you didn’t eat breakfast. You start digging around in your bag in hopes that you packed something that will hold you over. You pull out something totally unhealthy and nibble on it until your professor comes in to begin the exam.

After your exam is over, you walk down the hall and set your stuff out to begin studying for whatever exam is next on the agenda before class starts. It is a neverending cycle. Study for one exam, take it, study for another.

Finally, it’s time to start class. You pack up your things and head back into the room, where someone has taken the seat you’ve been sitting in since the beginning of the year. Go figure. You plant yourself in a seat closer to the back of the room and prepare yourself for the longest 2 hours of your life.

After class, you heat up your lunch and eat it with your friends. Lunch goes by so fast (as it always does) and it’s time to start the last class of the day. You try to pay attention, but all you can think about is the nap you so desperately need but cannot afford to take after class.

You get out of class and head back to your apartment. There, one of two things happens. You either start studying again, or you lay down in hopes of taking a quick nap and it turns into a 2-hour nap which you instantly regret.

After your nap, you try to study some more, but you get distracted by the hunger in your belly. Time to go get dinner. You meet some friends for dinner, but you have to rush off because you have to actually be productive and study.

You tell yourself you’re going to get to bed early, but it rarely happens. You either find yourself studying into the wee hours of the night, or you find that this is the only free time you have, so you have to use it to relax and spend some time on yourself.

Finally, you shower, pack up your bag for the next day, and pick out your outfit. You brush your teeth. You lay down in bed.

And finally, you set your alarm for 5:30 again…knowing it’s already 12AM or 2AM… knowing you won’t wake up that early, but still hoping you can get an early start.

You shut your eyes and dream of the days when you are an active pharmacist… happy, healthy, free.

You’re always trying to thrive, but honestly, it’s okay as long as you just survive.

Emily

Repost: “14 Reasons Staying in Friday Night is Always the Answer”

Sometimes you just need a night to kick back and relax.

1. No one is judging you for wearing your PJs at 8pm.

2. There is also no shame in falling asleep at 10pm and wake up well-rested.

3. The only drama you will witness is via Netflix.

4. As you binge watch the latest original series

5. Pets are so much better at cuddling than boys anyway.

6. You can stuff your face with ice cream or pizza, (OR BOTH) and suffer no judgement.

7. You can rock the messy bun all night.

8. There’s no struggle with makeup for an hour before heading out (AKA no redoing your “classic wing” three times before it’s just right)

9. Staying in means staying in bed, our real one true love.

10. No fighting off unwanted attention at the bar.

11. You won’t get a headache from standing next to the DJ.

12. There’s zero chance of a drunken one night stand that you’ll regret in the morning.

13. You get to spend one whole night treating yourself.

14. And you will remember every moment of it.

I’m a Phi Mu, Stay a Phi Mu, Phi Mu ’til I Die

This isn’t your typical article, but it isn’t your typical sorority. It’s better.

Phi Mu. You will always have my heart.

The decision to pledge myself into Phi Mu on October 27th, 2016 was quite frankly one of the best decisions that I have ever made, and that made the decision I had to make to become an alumna one of the hardest ones I have ever made.

It sounds cliche, but that is the truth. My sisters in Phi Mu will always be in my heart. This article is for them, and all of the future Phi Mu pledge classes.

Dearest sister,

I will always be here. Hopefully, I got the chance to get to know you, but if I did not… let’s fix that. I may not be present, but I’m always here for you. No matter what happens in your life, you will always have someone to go to for help, advice, or just someone to talk to. I will always be your sister. Our differences may never go away, but neither will I. Our sisterhood is one that is in my heart for eternity, and I hope it is in yours too.

Always remember that our sorority is one of a kind, and each and every one of us is beautifully and wonderfully made. Stand tall, be yourself, and never apologize for being you… because you are amazing just the way you are.

It made me so happy to see all of your pictures through recruitment and getting our beautiful new phis this bid day, but it also made me sad. I’m sad because the collegiate membership part of my life is behind me, but I’m happy to have experienced it with all of y’all.

I can’t wait to see the amazing things that our chapter does in the future.

I love Phi Mu and I love all of you.

Here’s some of my favorite Phi Mu memories:

Maintaining My Sanity in Pharmacy School

Who would have thought that I would be in my first year of Pharmacy School at 20 years old. It’s a little tricky to juggle being a graduate student with still living the life a 20-year old wants to be living, but I’m doing it.

Going to graduate school at the same university that I completed my undergrad career is very difficult at times. I still have so many friends that are still completing their undergraduate studies, and sometimes it’s hard for them to understand how hard I have to work. This provides one of the major challenges in my life. You have to learn when its essential to say yes and when its essential to say no.

You can’t do everything. I’m slowly learning that I cannot stretch myself too thin. I was put in the position where I had to go alumna in my sorority and leave that part of my college career behind because I’ve decided to run for president of my P1 (pharmacy year 1) class, and I really think that it is an amazing opportunity to grow as an individual and as a leader. I love all of my Phi Mu sisters; I know that I will always have them in my life, but at this point in my life I have to contribute to the sorority as an alumna. And that’s okay! It’s okay to figure out what is most important in your life and focus on everything that gets you to your dreams.

However, you have to do things that make you happy. You can’t focus only on school. So, I make sure to save some free time every day to do things that help me stay happy, healthy, and sane in the midst of all of the stress. I’ve been attending group workout classes once or twice a week, watching a little bit of Netflix, hanging out with my friends/roommates, and getting more in touch with my faith.

I know its only been a few weeks, but I feel as if I’m managing my time well. I’ve been extremely happy in these first few weeks of school, and I hope I continue to maintain my good attitude about all of it.

I just keep reminding myself that this is the dream I’ve had since 5th grade and that I’m going to make a fantastic pharmacist as long as I push myself to be the best I can be in all aspects of my life.

Stay Golden,

Emily

A Day In The Life: Summer 2017

Now let me tell you, my Summer has been extremely, extremely long and boring. However, I’ve been doing pretty well focusing on my health and making sure I complete my to-do list for starting pharmacy school. So here’s a little insight into what my Summer life consists of.

Wake Up. I have been waking up between 8 AM and 10 AM every day this Summer, and let me tell you, it has been the best decision. I’m able to get so much done just waking up before lunch.

Work Out. I haven’t been doing a super strenuous workout, but I have been doing a 30-day Ab and Squat challenge, and riding my bike around my neighborhood for cardio.

Breakfast. I’ve been going back and forth between a bunch of different breakfasts. Lately though, I’ve been eating oatmeal pancakes and a fruit smoothie with ItWorks Greens blended in (these are my GO-TO for a healthy smoothie).

Plan The Day. I had so much that I was supposed to get done before Pharmacy School, so I’ve been planning my days to make sure I get everything done. (PS: I have! Except for the summer work I haven’t been given yet).

Lunch. So, my lunch hasn’t really been the most healthy, but it’s to die for. I’ve been toasting some bread and smoothing on some peanut butter and some marshmallow fluff. I pair this with some water and some fruit of some sort.

Whatever I Have Planned For The Day. Most days, this consists of dogsitting/babysitting and watching Netflix for forever, but on certain days I’ve been going to the doctor to get my necessary vaccinations for Grad School and doing other things for school. Also, I sometimes go hang out by my pool.

Dinner. Now, my dinners vary so much, but most of the time it’s some form of chicken b/c chicken is the G.O.A.T.

Family. After dinner, I’ve been watching tv or movies with my parents because these are the things I’m going to miss when I move out next Summer.

That’s about all I’ve been up to, and I can’t wait for school to start so I can have even more structure to my day.

My Miracle Single Serving Smoothies

Smoothies are the perfect way to take your breakfast on-the-go or just to have in addition to your breakfast for a quick boost of energy to conquer your day. This is just the recipe to how I make my morning smoothies. Enjoy!

First, freeze a tray of plain yogurt-filled ice cubes.

Then, make your fruit freezer bags (these are bags filled with 1 cup of your favorite fruits).

Add 2 of the frozen yogurt cubes in with each of the fruit freezer bags and blend in a single serving blender with the liquid of choice. I prefer milk or apple juice.

Easy. Simple. Perfect.
